A water leak on the irrigation system belonging to a Homeowner’s Association (HOA) went unnoticed or unreported and resulted in a three thousand dollar ($3000.00) water bill for one month. The HOA board ordered the irrigation system turned off.
The system remained off for over five years when an HOA representative approached Van Horn Irrigation about repairing the system.
We agreed to call if repairs reached $2000. I called within 15 minutes of arriving on site—before I had even turned the water on.
Five years of abandonment had resulted in the timer's electronics being exposed to the weather, and a very expensive timer had to be replaced; we had known issues with valves, unknown wiring issues, and nearly every spray and nozzle on several zones had to be replaced. A very expensive water bill was now a very expensive repair bill.
This HOA is the reason we now offer service plans, remote monitoring, and remote internet for the monitoring. They wanted to avoid this very expensive mistake happening again.

Monitoring your irrigation system comes with several benefits:
By optimizing watering schedules based on actual needs, monitoring helps reduce water waste.
Reduced water consumption translates to lower water bills and reduced energy costs associated with pumping water.
Ensuring your lawn and plants receive the right amount of water prevents both under-watering and over-watering, leading to healthier growth.

Data-driven insights enable adjustments to irrigation schedules based on real-time conditions, leading to more efficient water usage.
The property owner is the default irrigation system monitor. Some property owners have the time and energy to do most of this themselves. They will watch the system run while drinking their coffee in the morning and even make minor repairs themselves. But to avoid loss of water pressure, many homeowners run their irrigation systems at night and never see it running. They are unaware of any issues until they find a big puddle in their lawn, they notice dead plants or brown spots, or they get a huge water bill at the end of the month.

Hunter Hydrawise Controller installation and setup includes basic monitoring for free.
Basic Monitoring will:
Basic monitoring will not detect water flow issues such as broken pipes, broken spray heads, or valves that need repair or replacement.
Full remote monitoring is $9.95 a month (unless you sign up for a service plan) and will:

Full remote monitoring usually requires a few upgrades:
